beyond the club
Right at the heart of any police force, their employees and most definitely for our players and club is a strong sense of doing the right thing and improving our communities and the lives of those within them.
With that sense and purpose as a club and on an individual level, we have and continue to be, involved with a number of charitable and local projects. Players and committee members work with their local rugby teams, schools and hospitals. Either coaching, carrying out on-site visits or raising funds by doing all sorts of activities such as cycle sportive, charity runs, collections or raffles and even the odd parachute jump with the Red Devils!
Our current main partnerships on a national level are:
The Lewis Moody Foundadtion was inspired by Joss Rowley Stark, a young man who fought cancer with immense courage and utter selflessness. “I learnt from meeting Joss that when a child is seriously ill, anything that lifts a family out of their daily routine and allows them to spend time together doing something special can have a lasting impact” Lewis Moody, Co- Founder. The Lewis Moody Foundation inspired by Joss and his family, Lewis and his wife Annie decided to start The Lewis Moody Foundation in 2014, in partnership with The Brain Tumour Charity. Since then they have raised over
£1million, which they have used to fund work to help families affected by serious illness now and in the future. We are proud to raise funds to promote crucial awareness of brain tumours through the award-winning HeadSmart campaign, fund vital research into brain tumour diagnosis and give families living with critical illness days out of the ordinary to lift spirits and create special memories. The Foundation relies 100% on donations and fundraising from the public, companies and organisations.
The Police Treatment Centres is a registered charity supported by voluntary donations from the Police Family primarily in the Northern forces of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, but also from British Transport Police, the Civil Nuclear Constabulary and the Ministry of Defence Police. Officers currently make a donation from their pay of £1.80 per week.
The Charity provides two Treatment Centres where Serving and Retired Police Officers can receive treatment following an illness or injury, with the aim of assisting their return to better health. The Centres are St Andrews, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and Castlebrae, Auchterarder, Perthshire.
Almost 4000 Serving and Retired Officers attend the Treatment Centres each year and most receive intensive physiotherapy. Others seek support with stress-related conditions or anxiety and depression as part of our Psychological Wellbeing Programme.
